Good questions

About the material and the work.

What is cork spray insulation?

Cork spray combines natural cork granules with a water-based binder. It is sprayed onto suitable prepared walls to form a continuous textured coating. Its thermal and acoustic contribution depends on the product, thickness and the whole wall construction.

Is cork spray a new product?

Cork has a long history as a building material. Cork spray uses granules in a binder to create a coating that can be applied with specialist spray equipment. John works with TIWI CorkSpray.

Is cork spray the same as spray foam?

No. Cork spray is a cork-granule surface coating. Spray foam is an expanding insulation material. They are different systems with different applications, and neither should be selected without considering the building and the proposed specification.

Is cork spray suitable for my family home?

Ask John for the relevant product information and the practical arrangements for application, drying and ventilation. A water-based binder should not be taken as a blanket claim that a product contains no chemicals or is suitable for every sensitivity.

Does cork spray have BBA certification?

John’s certificate identifies him as a TIWI Accredited Cork Plasterer. This relates to installer training. It is not BBA product approval. Ask John for the current technical and approval documents for the proposed system, particularly if your project has specific certification requirements.

How much could cork spray save on heating?

Any saving depends on the wall construction, coating specification, existing insulation, heating and how the property is used. We do not promise a fixed reduction. A thin coating should not be treated as equivalent to a complete wall insulation system.

Does cork spray help with damp and condensation?

A suitable vapour-permeable finish may be useful as part of a considered wall build-up. It does not repair leaks or replace ventilation and heating. Persistent damp or condensation needs its cause assessed before a coating is applied.

How good is cork spray at soundproofing?

Cork has acoustic properties, but a coating’s effect depends on thickness and the complete wall or room construction. We do not promise a sound reduction figure. Tell John what sort of noise you are trying to address.

How long does cork spray last?

Service life depends on the specified system, background, exposure, installation and maintenance. Ask John about the product information and care requirements for your project rather than relying on a general lifespan claim.

How long does installation take?

The programme depends on the area, preparation, access and drying conditions. External work also depends on weather. John will discuss the likely sequence and timing after assessing the work.

Do I need to move out during installation?

Many jobs can be planned around an occupied home, but access and room use need discussing first. Internal work needs clear space, protection and appropriate drying and ventilation arrangements. John can explain what to expect for your job.

What preparation is needed before installation?

The surfaces need to be sound and suitable for the chosen system. Preparation may include cleaning, removal of loose material, repairs and compatible priming. John agrees the preparation, furniture arrangements and protection with you before work starts.

Can cork spray be applied over existing plaster or render?

Sometimes. The existing finish must be checked for adhesion, compatibility and moisture. Loose or unsuitable material may need removing. A survey establishes the preparation before application is recommended.

What affects the cost of cork spray?

The area, internal or external application, wall condition, required preparation, access and finish all affect the scope. Contact John for a free, no-obligation quote based on your property.

Can I discuss payment options?

Ask John about the payment arrangements for your project before agreeing the work. The website does not confirm the availability of a finance facility.

What areas do you cover?

Eco Coatings is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and works UK-wide. John has also completed work in Spain. Share your postcode and project details to discuss the practical arrangements.

How do I get a quote?

Use the enquiry form or call John on 07801 449166. Tell him your postcode, property type and what you want to improve. He can discuss an assessment and a free quote.

Who is John Martin?

John Martin is the founder of Eco Coatings, a Leeds-based plasterer and renderer with 15+ years in the trade. He is a TIWI-accredited cork plasterer and is on every job.

Can I ask about insurance documents?

Ask John directly for the current documents relevant to the proposed work before you appoint him. This website does not confirm specific insurance cover.

What aftercare and written terms apply?

Ask John for the proposed product information, aftercare guidance and any written terms that apply to your specific job before proceeding. No particular cover or duration is promised on this website.
